Course Description:

This combined Nurse Aide and Home Health Aide course prepares students to provide safe, compassionate, and competent care to clients in long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and home care settings. Students will learn basic nursing skills, restorative care, infection prevention, communication, patient safety, and home health principles necessary for entry-level employment.

  • Upon successful completion, students may qualify to:
    • •Sit for the Virginia Nurse Aide Competency Examination (NNAAP)
    •  Seek employment as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
    •  Work as a Home Health Aide/Home Attendant in Virginia

About the Program

The Nurse Aide program at Campbell County Technical Center prepares students for a rewarding career in
healthcare. This course blends classroom instruction with hands-on skills practice and clinical experiences at
facilities like Centra–Lynchburg General Hospital, Summit Nursing & Rehab Center, Autumn Care, and Heritage
Hall. Students gain essential nursing skills, patient care knowledge, and real-world experience that prepare them for
immediate employment or further nursing education.

 

CertificationsGraduates are eligible to take the Virginia Board of Nursing Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) exam. Students also earn
CPR and First Aid certification, giving them a strong foundation for healthcare careers.

Career Options• Certified Nurse Aide in hospitals, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities
• Patient Care Technician in rehab centers or dialysis clinics
• Home Health Aide providing care in patient homes
• Pathway to Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) programs

Prerequisites• 11th or 12th grade status
• Up-to-date immunizations and negative TB test
• Background check and drug screening required by clinical sites
• Good attendance and passing grade to continue to second semester
• Professionalism and teamwork during classroom and clinical experiences
